Freeways and Roads
The San Gabriel Valley is served by six major freeways
– the San Bernardino Freeway (Interstate 10), the Foothill
Freeway (Interstate 210), the Pomona Freeway (State Route
60), the San Gabriel River Freeway (Interstate 605), the
Orange Freeway (State Route 57) and the Long Beach Freeway
(Interstate 710) – that link it to the entire Los Angeles
five-county region. These major freeways interconnect
the 400 square miles of the Valley with unusual efficiency
and provide quick access to the rest of the Los Angeles
Basin and California.

Public Transportation
The San Gabriel Valley provides bus service provided
by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation
Authority (MTA), which operates the nation’s second
largest bus fleet. Both the MTA and Foothill buses utilize
the exclusive El Monte Busway on Route 10 to expedite
travel between the San Gabriel Valley and downtown Los
Angeles.
The San Gabriel Valley also provides Metrolink, a commuter-rail
service operated by the Southern California Regional
Rail Authority. Metrolink’s Riverside Line links Pomona,
Industry and Montebello with downtown Los Angeles. The
San Bernadino Line stops in Claremont, Pomona, Covina,
Baldwin Park, El Monte, downtown Los Angeles and at
California State University, Los Angeles. Together,
the two lines carry nearly 8,000 people daily. The trains
run on a 20-minute interval time schedule. Other
forms of public transportation also include Dial-A-Ride
and the Foothil Transit.
